The last
comment was on the definition of supervision.
What constitutes supervision in a remote place?
The Australian Pharmacy Registering Authority (APRA) is meeting in Darwin
and it is hoped something innovative will come from that.
If innovation does not eventuate, start the murmur now, and say that
you believe a video check is good enough.
Any one with thoughts on this matter is invited to comment.
Do you think the checking of the dispensing of drugs needs to be done
in person, or can it not be done through some new age media like video
or bar code scanning?
Let's hear your views.
Comments:
"Legalities
aside, I am wondering how cost effective it is, sitting at the end of
a video camera and watching someone dispense a prescription.
How do you coordinate the process so that you can observe the finished
production at precisely the moment in time it is finished?
Or do you sit through the entire procedure?
Would a patient have confidence when observing the system in progress,
and what if the patient becomes impatient with the sluggishness of the
procedure?
Seems to me that being glued to the TV makes you unproductive with double
the cost involved."
"Dispensing
prescriptions utilising an assistant, requires the personal supervision
of a pharmacist. I do not think that remote viewing would legally constitute
personal supervision."
"Have
you ever endured the quality of Internet video?
I would not trust such a system because of poor image and sound quality."
Sounds
like a good idea. When you trial it, share the results with the rest
of us. Your innovation is to be commended."
