While most Pharmacists were concentrating on an e-Health strategy (i.e. how can I reach all those retail customers with my offer), something sinister happened.
The Western Australian Australian Medical Association and Optum medical software alliance was announced. A bold move that has trumped the much heralded Guild/Health Insurance Commission's "Better Medication Management system" (BMMS).
"Ownership" of data will reside with doctors as will, presumably, the means to electronically send prescriptions.
There are several other contender models.
None originate with Pharmacy.
I know of at least one wholesaler who examined the possibilities of partnering and gave it up as politically/commercially dangerous.
Truly both exciting/dangerous times we live in.
Who amongst us doesn't wish to go back to the village model where the only competitor was across the road!
That competitor is now not even in your own State.
Have you applied for your e-Health or Public Key Infrastructure certificate?
These will be mandatory for online work and keep an eye out for information on this coming your way soon.
In my last article I predicted an eminent "free fall" of the World economy just hours before the World Trade Centre disaster.
My cousin lives 45 miles south of New York and two families in their street lost fathers.
None of us could have predicted the mayhem.
Air travel suddenly lost its glamour.
