.
I am considering
supplying an isolated town through a "depot pharmacy" arrangement.
I would
like to know what the meaning of "pharmacist supervision" is in relation
to the dispensing process.
In this
age of technology, is video conferencing a means of obtaining supervision.
Even bar code scanning would allow a check on the right label getting
to the right box of tablets.
This is
no doubt a matter for a Pharmacy Board, and with a meeting of the APRA
due soon it may be something for them to consider.
If I could
supervise the dispensing from a distant place (my pharmacy) for a dispensary
technician to "dispense" at the depot pharmacy, by means of video camera,
would that meet the legal requirements?
I hope
the law keeps pace with IT developments, and that we are not held back
in our professional development by lawmakers not prepared to take the
plunge into the new millennium!
I will
appreciate a response.
Editors Note: A response will be sought to this question in future
editions.
Consideration should also be given to the management efficiency of the
above. Is it practical? Is it too labour intensive?
You tell us.
